Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks With Soft Polenta

Total Time: 2 hrs 20 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 2 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 8 lamb shanks, trimmed
  • 1/4 cup flour, seasoned
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 stalk celery, roughly chopped
  • 2 carrots, roughly chopped
  • 2 parsnips, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup red
  • 3 cups chicken stock
  • 1 cup tomato passata
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 sprig fresh thyme
  • 1/2 orange rind, cut into thick strips
  • 1 sprig fresh parsley
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup fine instant polenta
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pinch paprika, to garnish (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 160°c(315°f). heat oil in a heavy-bottomed casserole dish. it should be big enough to fit the shanks in a single layer. lightly dust the shanks in the flour and brown in casserole dish. remove from dish.
  • 2 add onion and cook gently for a few minutes. stir in garlic, celery, carrot and parsnip. pour in and let come back up to heat, about 1 minute. return the shanks to the dish. add the stock, passata herbs and orange peel. cover and bake for 2 hours or until shanks are tender.
  • 3 gently remove the shanks from the dish and arrange on a warm serving plate. spoon the vegetables and gravy over the shanks. discard herbs. serve with the polenta.
  • 4 polenta: bring the stock and water to the boil. slowly rain in the polenta, stirring constantly. reduce heat and simmer over low heat for 5-6 minutes or until mix starts to leave the side of the pot. remove from heat, add butter and season with salt and pepper. spoon into a warm serving dish.

Potato Bacon Clam Chowder

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, diced
  • 1 tablespoon butter, or as needed
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 2 cups cubed, red skin-on potatoes
  • 1 (8 ounce) bottle clam juice, divided
  • 1/4 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup diced carrots
  • 1/4 cup diced mushrooms
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 pint half-and-half
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, or to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 2 (6.5 ounce) cans minced clams
  • 6 leaves spinach, or more to taste

  • place bacon in a large, heavy saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. drain bacon slices on paper towels. pour bacon drippings into bowl and reserve.
  • melt 1 tablespoon butter in the same saucepan over medium-high heat. cook and stir onions in hot butter until soft, 5 to 8 minutes. add potatoes, 1/2 the bottle of clam juice, celery, carrots, mushrooms, 1 1/2 teaspoons pepper, and 1 teaspoon salt. bring to a simmer, reduce heat to medium-low, cover the saucepan, and cook until vegetables are just tender, about 15 minutes.
  • melt 1/2 cup butter in a large pot over medium heat. whisk flour into melted butter until smooth. whisk milk, half-and-half, and cream into flour mixture until smooth and slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. stir vegetable mixture, bay leaves, thyme, and dill into cream mixture. bring to a simmer, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until vegetables are tender and chowder is hot, 15 minutes.
  • stir minced clams, spinach leaves, and reserved bacon drippings into chowder. cook until clams are heated through, 3 to 5 minutes. season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • preheat oven to 425 degrees f (220 degrees c).

Slow Cooked Cuban Lamb Tacos

  • 3 1/2 lbs lamb shoulder
  • 3 teaspoons cumin
  • 1/2 cup apricot preserves
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded
  • 1 red onion, coarsely chopped
  • 12 tortillas
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • top with fresh cilantro

Recipe

  • 1 1. coat slow cooker with cooking spray. add lamb (try to trim the lamb of all the fat or use lamb loin) and rub on all sides with cumin. season generously with kosher salt and pepper. spread apricot preserves over top.
  • 2 2. remove seeds and ribs from jalapenos. slice. roughly chop red onion. add jalapenos and red onion to slow cooker.

  • 1 (26 -28 ounce) jar pasta sauce
  • 1 (8 ounce) can no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 8 uncooked lasagna noodles
  • 1 (1 lb) jar alfredo sauce
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (12 oz.)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Recipe

  • 1 in large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. drain.
  • 2 spray 4 to 5-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. spread 3/4 cup of the tomato pasta sauce in bottom of sprayed slow cooker. stir remaining tomato pasta sauce and tomato sauce into ground beef.
  • 3 layer 3 lasagna noodles over sauce in slow cooker, breaking noodles as necessary. top with 1/3 of the alfredo pasta sauce, spreading evenly. sprinkle with 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese. top with 1/3 of the ground beef mixture, spreading evenly.
  • 4 repeat layering twice, using 2 lasagna noodles in last layer. sprinkle parmesan cheese over top.

Slow Cooker - Crock Pot Chocolate Mayo Cake

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup pure cocoa
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1/4 cup strawberry marmalade

Recipe

  • 1 in bowl, mix sugar, salt, flour, cocoa, and baking soda.

Slow Braised Lamb With Backyard Farms Tomatoes And Lentils

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1/2 leg of lamb
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 12 backyard farm tomatoes, diced
  • 1 bunch fresh thyme
  • olive oil
  • 3 bay leaves
  • black olives, stoned
  • 12 1/2 ounces red
  • 5 fluid ounces chicken stock
  • 5 ounces french green lentils
  • 7 ounces frozen mixed potatoes carrots celery and onions, finely diced
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 17 fluid ounces chicken stock
  • 6 backyard farm tomatoes, diced
  • 1 lemon

Recipe

  • 1 for the lamb, sear in a casserole dish in the olive oil until well browned.
  • 2 remove the lamb and then add the onion, garlic, and tomatoes.
  • 3 cook for a minute or two and add the lamb.
  • 4 add the stock, red , bay leaves, olives, and thyme.
  • 5 cover and cook in the oven at 350 degrees for two hours. the lamb should be almost falling off the bone.
  • 6 meanwhile, fry the carrot, onion and celery with the olive oil for a few moments and then add the stock, tomatoes, bay leaves, and lentils.
  • 7 simmer until the liquid has gone and the lentils are tender. add a splash more oil and the lemon juice.
  • 8 take the lamb out, reduce the stock for a moment and flake off some big chunks of lamb.
  • 9 place a pile of lentil in a rustic dish and place the lamb on top. spoon the sauce over and around and serve.

Sloppy Joes My Way

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 (10 ounce) can tomato soup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 hamburger buns (toasted if you like)
  • 6 tablespoons french's french fried onions

Recipe

  • 1 brown ground beef.
  • 2 add onions and continue browning.
  • 3 add garlic (be careful not to burn the garlic).
  • 4 add the rest of the ingredients except for the buns and the french's french fried onions.
  • 5 simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes to enhance the flavour.
  • 6 slice the buns and toast them if you prefer. (sometimes i toast them in the oven with butter and garlic).
  • 7 add the meat mixture to one side of the bun.
  • 8 top the meat with some fff onions.
  • 9 add the top of the bun and serve.

  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic clove

Recipe

  • 3/4 cup apple vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce

  • 1/2 cup corn syrup

Recipe

  • 1 combine flour, salt and pepper. coat ribs with flour mixture.
  • 2 in large skillet, brown ribs on all sides in butter. transfer to slow cooker.
  • 3 in same skillet, combine beef broth, onion, brown sugar, vinegar, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, chili sauce, garlic, chili powder and corn syrup. mix well. heat to boiling.

Slow Cooker 20 To 40 Clove Garlic Chicken

Ingredients

  • 3 -4 lbs chicken
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 20 -40 garlic cloves, peeled, but intact

  • 1 in a 6 quart slow cooker. place onion slices on the bottom of the stoneware insert.
  • 2 in a large mixing bowl, toss chicken parts with olive oil, salt, paprika, pepper, and all of the garlic cloves. pour into slow cooker, on top of the onion.
  • 3 do not add water.
  • 4 cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 4-6. the longer you cook chicken-on-the-bone, the more tender it will be. if you use drumsticks, the ones on the side will brown and may stick to the sides of the crock, burning a bit. if this bothers you, you can rearrange them with tongs an hour before serving.

Slow Cooker (crock Pot) Pesto Chicken And Sweet Potatoes

Total Time: 6 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 6 hrs

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemons or 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 cups fresh basil
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts or 2 tablespoons walnuts or 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 chicken thighs or 4 chicken breast halves
  • sliced mozzarella cheese (i used string cheese!)
  • aluminum foil or parchment paper
  • 4 small sweet potatoes, washed well, skin on

Recipe

  • 1 use a 6 quart slow cooker.
  • 2 blend or food process the first seven ingredients. (if you get to the chicken, you've gone too far.).
  • 3 take a small taste to double check the flavor of your pesto and adjust as needed.
  • 4 arrange the chicken in the bottom of your slow cooker. chicken may be used frozen.
  • 5 layer on the mozzarella cheese.
  • 6 pour on the pesto.
  • 7 cover with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  • 8 scrub sweet potatoes well and prick with a fork or other puncturing object.
  • 9 lay them on top of the foil or parchment, of course.
  • 10 cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 4-5.
  • 11 if your chicken is frozen, it will take longer.
  • 12 when done, carefully remove the sweet potatoes with tongs.
  • 13 watch out for steam. [as a side note, i am the queen of steam burns. oops, forgot the mitt again.].

Slow Cooked Smothered Lamb Chops

  • 4 slices bacon, chopped fine
  • 6 lamb chops, bone-in blade cut about 3/4 inch thick
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 yellow onions, halved and sliced into 1/2 inch moons
  • 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons thyme, minced
  • 3 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, minced

Recipe

  • 1 fry bacon in large skillet over medium heat until lightly browned, about 8 minutes. using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels, leaving fat in pan. refrigerate bacon.
  • 2 heat fat over high heat until smoking. meanwhile, pat lamb chops dry with paper towels and sprinkle with salt and pepper. cook 3 chops until golden brown on both sides, about 3 minutes per side. transfer chops to slow cooker. repeat with remaining chops and transfer to slow cooker.
  • 3 pour off all but 1 teaspoon fat from skillet; add onions, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 cup water to skillet. scrape browned bits from pan bottom and cook over medium high heat until onions are soft, about 6 minutes. stir in garlic and thyme and cook 30 seconds longer. pour onion mixture over chops in slow cooker. add broth, soy sauce and remaining 1 tablespoon brown sugar to skillet, bring to boil and add bay leaves. pour mixture over onions in slow cooker.
  • 4 cover slow cooker and cook on low until lamb is very tender, about 8 hours.
  • 5 when ready to serve, reheat bacon in large saucepan until crisp and transfer to small bowl. remove chops to serving platter, discard bay leaves and pour liquid through mesh strainer into saucepan. transfer solids to blender with 1 cup liquid and blend until smooth. stir back into remaining liquid in saucepan. mix cornstarch and remaining 2 tablespoons water together in small bowl and stir into sauce. cook over medium heat until thickened, about 8 minutes. add vinegar, season with salt and pepper, pour over chops, and sprinkle with bacon and parsley. serve.

  • 1/2 lb red potatoes, cut into large dice
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 4 ounces chorizo sausage, sliced in half the long way and then cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 4 medium garlic cloves, minced (about 4 tsp.)
  • 1 (8 ounce) bottle clam juice
  • 1 large roma tomato
  • 1/4 cup dry
  • 12 ounces boneless skinless cod or 12 ounces other fish
  • 4 ounces medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Recipe

  • 1 poke the tomato with a fork and microwave on high in 15 second intervals until the peel rubs off easily (30-45 seconds). peel, core, and dice the tomato.
  • 2 combine potatoes, onion, chorizo and garlic in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high until onion is softened, about 5 minutes. pour mixture into slow cooker.
  • 3 add clam juice, tomato, and to slow cooker and cook until potatoes are tender, about 4 hours on low or 2 1/2 hours on high.
  • 4 cut fish into 2-inch pieces. add fish, shrimp, salt and pepper to slow cooker and continue to cook until fish flakes apart and shrimp are completely opaque, 20-30 minutes.

  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 lbs boneless lamb roast or 2 lbs boneless lamb chops
  • italiano seasoning, to taste
  • garlic powder, to taste
  • onion powder, to taste
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 6 ounces chicken-flavored ramen noodles, cooked, drained and mixed with seasoning packets (2 packs)

Recipe

  • 1 slice apples and lay them on the bottom of the slow cooker, slice onion and lay half of them on top of the apples.
  • 2 season roast with italiano seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder, and it you want to add salt and pepper. lay on top of the apples, and top with the remaining onions.
  • 3 pour apple juice down the side of the slow cooker so you don't rinse off all the seasoning.
  • 4 cook on high for 4 hours.
  • 5 when ready to serve, boil or ramen noodles in just water, drain, and toss with some butter and the seasoning packets.
  • 6 serve lamb with the apples and noodles.
  • 7 this is a basic last minute chuck into the slow cooker and run because your late recipe. if you want to add different seasonings then experiment. i really didn't know how it would taste until i got home 9 hours later. hubby told me i have to make it more often.

Sloppy Jose's

  • 1 teaspoon adobo sauce, from a can of chipotle peppers (or more, this is hot use at own risk)

Recipe

  • 1 at medium to medium high heat brown the meat with the onions, green pepper, and garlic.
  • 2 drain off the fat.
  • 3 pour in tomato sauce, chipotle sauce (this stuff maybe too hot for some people, if you do not like spicy foods use less or don't use it at all-- start with a small amount and add more according to taste), cumin powder and grated cheese.
  • 4 stir until cheese is completely melted.
  • 5 allow sauce to thicken.
  • 6 reduce heat to low and stir in salt and pepper if desired.
  • 7 you may now add olives or chiles if you desire.
  • 8 put thickened meat mixture on hamburger buns-- or if you can find the little bollo or bonito (can't remember the name) rolls at your grocery store use those if you like.

  • 1 season lamb shoulder with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large pan over high heat and cook lamb for 5 minutes, turning once, until browned. transfer to a large roasting tin. meanwhile, deglaze pan with red and stock then pour over lamb in roasting tin. cook in a preheated oven at 220c for 20 minutes then reduce heat to 160c and cook for 3-4 hours until tender, basting occasionally and adding the truss tomatoes during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • 2 for roast vegetables, combine ingredients in a bowl with remaining olive oil and season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. place in another roasting tin and pour 1 cup water over. roast in the oven for the last 2 hours while lamb shoulder is cooking. serve lamb with truss tomatoes and roast vegetables on platters or plates.

  • 1 small onion, quartered

  • 1 remove package of organs (if present) from chicken and discard. rinse chicken well, inside and out. pat dry with paper towels.
  • 2 place metal steamer basket (with post removed) in slow cooker & spray with cooking spray.
  • 3 season cavity with salt, add onion. truss chicken (if doing) and rub well with olive oil.
  • 4 place chicken "breast side down " and sprinkle heavily with seasoning, turn over and place on steamer basket "breast side up" and season well using remaining seasoning.

  • 6 let "rest" 15-20 minutes before carving.
  • 7 rotisserie chicken seasoning (makes 1/4 cup = 4 tbsp).

  • 2 cups beef stock or 2 cups canned beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 -3 large carrots, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • 2 melt butter in large oven safe pot or dutch oven and sear all sides of roast until browned.
  • 3 remove meat.
  • 4 add onions, celery, bay leaf, garlic, peppercorns, thyme, and parsley to the pot that the meat was seared in and saute until the onion starts to brown.
  • 5 add 2 cups beef broth or stock to veggie mixture, and heat scraping the beef bits off the bottom of the pot, then add 1/2 tsp salt.
  • 6 place roast back in pan.
  • 7 place the roast in the oven, covered for 4 hours, basting several times.
  • 8 when the meat is tender, remove and strain stock into medium bowl, discard veggies and keep stock.
  • 9 using 2 forks, shred the roast apart into slightly bigger than bite sized chunks.
  • 10 put the meat back into the pot and pour stock over it.
  • 11 add the remaining 1/2 tsp salt and the carrots.
  • 12 cover and cook for 40 to 50 more minutes.
  • 13 just before serving, strain the stock from the pot roast and combine it with the additional 2 cups broth to make gravy (you need 3 cups liquid, add water if short).
  • 14 sprinkle the flour into the liquid bring the liquid to a boil stirring often until thick.
  • 15 remove from heat.
  • 16 serve the pot roast and carrots over mashed potatoes with the gravy poured over all.
  • 17 salt and pepper to taste.

  • 1 place steak, garlic, celery and in a large bowl, cover and set aside in the fridge to marinate for at least 3-4 hours, or overnight.

  • 3 place beef and marinade and tomatoes in a large ovenproof dish, cover and place in oven for 2 hours.
  • 4 heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. add shallots and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until golden.

  • 1 use a large bowl and mix in ground lamb, ground beef, onion soup mix, shake and bake, eggs and mushrooms. use a small bowl and mix 1/2 cup of cheddar soup and evaporated milk once mixed add to the large bowl containing the meat, then mix well.
  • 2 add potatoes to your slow cooker then add the contents of your large bowl in the form of a loaf in the center above potatoes.
  • 3 mix the rest of your cheddar soup with cream of mushroom soup then add over your meatloaf. then place onions and mushrooms on top of that.

  • 1 raja naga chili
  • 3 red chilies
  • 1 inch galangal
  • 3 stalks lemongrass (woody bits removed)

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 3 shallots
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind juice
  • 100 g coconut cream
  • 1 teaspoon tomato puree
  • 50 g green beans
  • 150 g fresh pineapple, cut into chunks

Recipe

  • 1 make a paste from the chillies, shallots, garlic, turmeric, lemongrass, galangal, tamarind juice, fish sauce and a splash of your finest water.
  • 2 marinate the lamb in this overnight.
  • 3 place the marinated lamb with the marinade into an ovenproof casserole dish and add the pineapple, green beans, tomato puree and coconut cream.
  • 4 stir together gently and put it in the oven for 1 1/2 hours slow cooking at 130 degrees. it may look rather dry at this point but the juices from the meat will turn into a lovely sauce. give it a little stir at half time :-).
  • 5 if it does seem a little to dry after half time, do add a splash of water to get the right consistency.
  • 6 serve with plain rice and have a good old steam outa your ears but with a surprise of pineapple hitting at an unsuspected moment!

  • 1/3-2/3 cup sugar, depending on your level of preferred sweetness
  • 1/2 cup baking mix
  • 2 1/4 cups baking mix
  • 1/4 cup sugar, plus
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Recipe

  • 1 spray the insert of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
  • 2 in a large mixing bowl, toss together all the frozen fruit, sugar and 1/2 cup baking mix.
  • 3 transfer the fruit to the slow cooker.
  • 4 in another large mixing bowl, stir together 2 1/4 cups baking mix, 1/4 cup sugar, melted butter and milk with a wooden spoon.
  • 5 with your hands, drop bits of dough on top of the fruit in the slow cooker.
  • 6 in a small mixing bowl, stir together the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • 7 sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on top of the dough and place the lid on the slow cooker.
  • 8 turn the power high and slow cook for 3 to 4 hours until the topping has puffed and the fruit is bubbling.
  • 9 serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

Slow Cook Lentil-sweet Potato Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups lentils
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 cups vegetable broth or 4 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 -1 1/2 tablespoon granulated onion powder
  • 2 carrots, chopped chopped or minced
  • 2 -3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 -1 1/2 tablespoon granulated garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2-1 cup sweet potato puree

Recipe

  • 1 clean and presoak the lentils for a few hours, two to three is sufficient, over night works well also. the lentils will easily drink up two cups of water.
  • 2 strain them, and dump them and all of the other ingredients into a 6 quart or larger slow cooker. (a 5 quart might work, but it would be a tight fit.)
  • 3 cook on low for 10 hours or high for 5 hours. i usually do a combination of the two settings (e.g., 6 hours on low and then 2 hours on high).
  • 4 note: three medium (baseball sized) sweet potatoes, chopped, can be substituted for the sweet potato purée, but the later seems to sweeten and thicken the overall soup significantly. the same with the carrots, where mincing them does seem to impact the color, flavor, and texture a bit.
  • 5 note: i have yet to try red lentils, so, if some brave individual does, i've appreciate hearing about how it turns out and what adjustments are required.
