Sloppy Joes

Total Time: 25 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped (optional)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 4 ounces v 8 vegetable juice (tomato juice or water can be used)
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (spicy optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder (spicy optional)

Recipe

  • 1 spray cooking spray in medium skillet.
  • 2 brown ground beef.
  • 3 remove ground beef, drain, and set aside.
  • 4 in same skillet, cook onion until soft.
  • 5 add chopped tomato, and cook until soft.
  • 6 add garlic, salt, and pepper to cooked onions and tomato stirring for 30 seconds.
  • 7 add tomato sauce, ketchup, v-8, worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and lemon juice to skillet with onion and tomato heating through until bubbly.
  • 8 return ground beef to this skillet with sloppy sauce.
  • 9 mix well, and heat through.
  • 10 add optional spicy seasonings to taste.
  • 11 spoon on warmed buns.
