Skippy's Pretty Good Deer Chili

Ingredients

- 2 lbs ground deer meat
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 5 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 cup water or 1 cup broth
- 1 (46 ounce) can tomato juice
- 2 (16 ounce) cans chili beans
Recipe
- 1 cook onion in oil until tender.
- 2 add meat and cook until browned.
- 3 mix together kosher salt, black pepper, red pepper, chili powder, cumin, onion powder and cocoa.
- 4 stir spice mixture into browned meat.
- 5 add water; cook on medium heat abour 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6 add tomato juice and chili beans.
- 7 bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- 8 reduce heat and cover.
- 9 simmer 1 1/2- 2 hours.
